The University of Buea hosts the most awaited 2025 edition of University Zonal Championships (Zone C University Games), which was launched yesterday with the football match between the University of Buea (UB) football boys and Institute Universitaire De La Côte (IUC). The game ended with a victory for UB over IUC by 3-2 score.
The launching ceremony witnessed, the presence of the H.E Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques FAME NDONGO, and H.E Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse MOUELLE KOMBI, the Governor of the South West Region H.E Bernard OKALIA BILAI, traditional and religious authorities.
The Lord Mayor David MAFANI NAMANGE Esq, welcomed all guests of the sports jamboree into Buea; the city of legendary Hospitality.
The Zone C University Games aims to foster unity, healthy competition, and talent development amongst university students. With multiple universities participating, the games promise to be an exciting spectacle, showcasing the best of Cameroonian university sports.
The Buea Council’s history traces back to 1922, initially established as the Bakweri clan council under Chief Mathias Lifafa Endeley during British colonial rule. It wasn’t until June 29, 1977, that it officially became the Buea Rural Council, formalized by Presidential decree No. 77/203. Prior to this, Buea served as the capital of Kamerun (Cameroon) under German colonial administration from 1901 to 1909 and later as the capital of Southern Cameroons under British rule
