The award ceremony took place on the 15th of June 2024, at the 14th Edition of the Life Time Achievement Award for nation builders in Bamenda. It should be recalled that this award is an annual event wherein nominees are selected from all walks of life. The jury which pronounced the final verdict comprised 25 members to wit; Leaders of Civil Society Organisations, teachers, lawyers and traditional rulers. It is on this backdrop that the Mayor of the Buea Municipality was nominated as one of the Most Outstanding Development-Oriented Mayor. The Jury took this decision after so many site visits to Buea and taken into consideration all the developmental projects carried out by the Mayor within the municipality.
This award comes on the heels of the construction of a new permanent bridge at the entrance to Moki’s Garage at Great Soppo Buea by the development-oriented landlord of Buea, the City of Legendary Hospitality.
The Buea Council’s history traces back to 1922, initially established as the Bakweri clan council under Chief Mathias Lifafa Endeley during British colonial rule. It wasn’t until June 29, 1977, that it officially became the Buea Rural Council, formalized by Presidential decree No. 77/203. Prior to this, Buea served as the capital of Kamerun (Cameroon) under German colonial administration from 1901 to 1909 and later as the capital of Southern Cameroons under British rule
