The Buea Council Today Tuesday 23rd of May 2023, received an important guest in the person of Philippe Accilien, the Country representative of the American program USAID. Received in audience by the 2nd Deputy Mayor of the Buea Council, Mr. Mosoko Edward Motowe.
The American diplomat came to apprise the actual state of the flash float disaster.
It was an opportunity for the Buea Council through the 2nd deputy Mayor to present some of the pertinent issues faced by the municipality, with hopes that the august guest will channel them to the appropriate quoters where some of them can be looked into. The visit ended with tour around the municipality for a concrete view of the situation.
The Buea Council’s history traces back to 1922, initially established as the Bakweri clan council under Chief Mathias Lifafa Endeley during British colonial rule. It wasn’t until June 29, 1977, that it officially became the Buea Rural Council, formalized by Presidential decree No. 77/203. Prior to this, Buea served as the capital of Kamerun (Cameroon) under German colonial administration from 1901 to 1909 and later as the capital of Southern Cameroons under British rule
