The Municipality of Buea today Sunday 19th May 2024, played host to the Peace-Work, organized by the Governor of the South West Region, H.E Bernard Okalia Bilia at the Independent Square, this as part of the festivity of the celebration of the 52nd edition of the National Day under the Theme: Army and Nation: Together for a United, Peaceful and Prosperous Cameroon.
Indeed all administrative heads, local authorities, traditional rulers and the population was out for this walk as from 6:00am.
The colorful sport-walk from the Independent Square through Guinness – Raze street to Mermoz junction, General Hospital to Turbock junction and back to the Independent Square.
The Buea Council’s history traces back to 1922, initially established as the Bakweri clan council under Chief Mathias Lifafa Endeley during British colonial rule. It wasn’t until June 29, 1977, that it officially became the Buea Rural Council, formalized by Presidential decree No. 77/203. Prior to this, Buea served as the capital of Kamerun (Cameroon) under German colonial administration from 1901 to 1909 and later as the capital of Southern Cameroons under British rule
