Today 16th September 2023, Buea, the South West Region and the rest of the nation, bid farewell to a legend of the City of Legendary Hospitality, the Ekweka Njoku Dr Charles Nammeh Menyoli.
The Buea Council’s history traces back to 1922, initially established as the Bakweri clan council under Chief Mathias Lifafa Endeley during British colonial rule. It wasn’t until June 29, 1977, that it officially became the Buea Rural Council, formalized by Presidential decree No. 77/203. Prior to this, Buea served as the capital of Kamerun (Cameroon) under German colonial administration from 1901 to 1909 and later as the capital of Southern Cameroons under British rule
